Our Story

In a small home nestled in New Deal’s iconic planned community, Greenbelt, the seeds of Bradley Site Design were planted with careful and nurturing hands. Since that late summer day in 1994, the Bradley team has grown in experience and ambition, with an ever-growing appreciation for the great responsibility of designers to work inclusively and systematically for positive impacts.

Trained in the offices of Keyes Condon Florance Architects and Oehme van Sweden Landscape Architects, Sharon Bradley saw an opportunity to combine design excellence with mission-driven values. A commitment to socially, ecologically, and economically equitable design principles has always guided the growth and ambition of BSD.

The Practice

  • Woman Owned

Sharon founded BSD in 1994 and has owned and operated the business ever since. She plays an integral role in the design and delivery of every project that BSD works on, and is always looking for opportunities to support other women in the field of Landscape Architecture.

  • Family Run

Sharon’s extended family has always been a strong inspiration and support for the continued success of BSD. With the next generation of the Bradley family on board, the values of this family-owned and operated business will continue for many years to come.

  • Certified

Throughout the DC metro area and beyond, BSD is certified as a small, local, enterprise zone, and disadvantaged business. These certifications not only bolster project teams in the proposal process, but reflect BSD’s unwavering commitment to our local, diverse community.

  • Award Winning

From a glowing Washington Post article of BSD’s first project to our most recent 2020 District Sustainability Award, BSD has been recognized time and again by industry leaders and institutions as an exceptionally talented studio. As always, no award would be possible without our wonderful partners and supporters.

  • Human Centered

When BSD turned 25, we commemorated the milestone with a year of 25 acts of service. This ethos of giving back to our local communities is at the core of who we are as a firm and as individuals. Simply put, spending time and investing in the communities with whom we work makes us better facilitators of their vision.
