Miscellaneous Parks Washington, DC

BSD works with local governments, schools and community groups to design parks and public spaces of all types and sizes. We’ve created community gardens and urban farms, sculpture gardens, playgrounds and splash parks. We dive deeply into cultural and historical backgrounds to design memorial parks that genuinely reflect and honor their subjects. In every one we strive for creative solutions to challenging sites and unique expressions of community identity.

In Washington, DC BSD has designed dozens of play areas throughout the city. Each one is different, designed to suit the needs of the neighborhood and provide accessible recreation to all its members. In addition to social and cultural considerations, we look to the site itself to provide clues as to the best configurations. We build embankment slides into slopes, set towers to see the best views, and preserve trees wherever possible for comfort and safety in the playgrounds.

Partnerships and community outreach are the foundation of public space design. We work closely with community groups and involve them in the design process. We identify local partners who can add resources to the park: public art, green infrastructure, edible gardens and maintenance assistance.
